Observational drawing

 Leaves     

Let’s have a look outside.  We don’t need to go many steps to witness nature.  At this time of year the trees are filling out, we’ve enjoyed the colour of the blooms and can now watch the new leaves come through.  

Can you step out to your garden and choose a leaf? 

If not, no worries at all, how about a drawing of your nearest tree?  Look closely at the shape of the leaves, every tree is different!

Have you chosen a leaf?  Let’s look at the detail, and follow these instructions below.  An important point, and one we've mentioned in class a number of times: Don't press hard - a light sketch, then go back with details once you are happy with your drawing.

Bonjour!   Be sure to do your Maths activity today first, as it will help you with your French!

How are you getting on with practising French out loud?  Just like any new word, it really needs to be spoken and heard. 

Here you will find a catchy little song of the months of the year.  Listen, practise on your own, then try and sing along with it!

Don’t forget to refer to the months in French from last week, it’s not cheating! Remember, the names of the months are not written with a capital letter in French, though they are in English.

Les Saisons (‘Lay sezon’) are the Seasons.

You know that our year is divided into four seasons, and so it is in French:

Can you remember what months belong to what seasons?  (Hint: Spring starts in March, three months to a season!)  You can always look back at the seasons wheel above.

Now practise your numbers with your dates:

(Les dates is pronounced as ‘Lay dat’)

Note that these dates below are mixed up!  To do this easily you need to know what number each month is in English!  You’ll have had good practice with that in Maths today.  (If you haven’t completed your maths activity, best to do that first, to help with these.)

For example the first one will match as 15.2 = le quinze février

We’ve been looking at the months of the year in French.  In your French activities this week, you will be using the months of the year along with numbers to write… dates, of course!

Here is a quick practice ordering the months of the year.  You may know these quite well, so that’s great, but just to be sure, are you able to say with speed what number month each one is?  You’ll know the first, as well as the last month, of course.  What is the 8^th month?  The 6^th?  The 9^th?

If you see the date written as 15/3 with or without the year (15/5 or 15/03/2020 or as 15.3.20), are you able to say what month this is?  This example is the 15^th March.
