Art Happy Friday! We will keep with our colours theme today along with our French, but be sure to complete your Maths activity and French practice first. 😊
Matisse-inspired paper
sculpture
We have enjoyed practising
colours in French, along with the parts of the body and face. Let’s stick with the French theme and learn
about one of France’s most famous artists: Henri Matisse! He lived from 1869 until 1954. Formerly a painter in the 1920s, he later became very ill and was
no longer able to paint. He then turned
to sculpture – with paper! The results
were some of these stunning collages we can take our inspiration from for our
art project this week! You could even make a self-portrait with cut out pieces!
Watch this short
video that tells us more about this wonderful artist, then have a look at some
of the examples we have here.
Henri
Matisse said, “Paper cutting is like sculpture”.
Importantly,
we do not need to use brand-new paper to make a collage. In fact, any type of paper can be recycled
into any shapes – cut out from magazines, wrapping paper, flyers – anything! (Do remember to ask an adult first, just to
be sure!)
On this post you see lots of examples which I hope have now inspired you! I am really looking forward to seeing the results! Happy sculpting!
Here is one more tutorial video with some helpful tips! (Keeping in mind, scrap paper will be great, just think colours!)
